Police Minister, General Bheki Cele led the annual Festive Season Inspection Roadshow in the Eastern Cape Province today. The visit forms part of efforts by the South African Police Service (SAPS) to channel resources to areas where they are most needed.

Over 900 new SAPS Constables from the #Project10k graduates will be deployed to police stations across the Eastern Cape province to increase the footprint of the SAPS this #SaferFestiveSeason and beyond. Various operations have been put in place to ensure the well-being and safety of all residents and tourists in the country, during the holiday period.

The Minister also handed over of 8 vehicles to the province;s 8 districts. The Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele led the handing over of these vehicles which will be utilised by the Community Police Forum (CPF) structures.

The handing over of these vehicles forms part of SAPS committment to resource and capacitate CPF structures to be able to execute their mandate of assisting the police to prevent and combat crime in communities. This year the SAPS has allocated R70 million to resource and capacitate these structures that exist to ensure good working relations between communities and the police.

All 1159 police stations across SA have fully functional CPF structures and their role is to bring the police and community together to ensure that collectively, both parties solve problems and challenges associated to crime in communities.

Recognised structures such as a CPF provide a platform where all communities and other stakeholders can meet to discuss crime prevention initiatives.
